Following the introduction of 50mph speed limits on certain sections of the A470, does the Welsh Government have any plans to install fixed speed cameras to monitor the effectiveness of the limits?

The Police and GoSafe, the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership, are responsible for speed limit enforcement. Speed surveys are being undertaken at all locations where 50mph speed limits were first implemented in June 2018 and this data fed into the subsequent investigations to establish the measures required to achieve compliance with the EU Ambient Air Quality Directive (2008/50/EC). Compliance with the 50mph speed limit is central to the effectiveness of the measures and enforcement of the speed limits is required to ensure the greatest compliance. We remain in dialogue with the Police and GoSafe in respect of enforcement of both the speed limits and inappropriate driver behaviour that non-compliance may cause.
