How will the introduction of class 230 trains to the Conwy Valley Railway Line enable a faster service, and will train speeds be varied along the route?

Answered by Minister for Economy and Transport | Answered on 24/01/2019

The Class 230 trains will be introduced to the Conwy Valley Line in spring 2019, which will provide an enhanced customer experience. The current line speed limits will remain in place for passengers safety. However, these completely rebuilt metro-style trains will have faster acceleration than the current trains. They will reduce scheduled journey times by one minute from December 2019.

Transport for Wales (TfW) is currently determining the exact locations and installation costs for stations currently without ticketing machines along the Conwy Valley Line. TfW is currently providing ticket sales in the area through local convenience stores, to improve access across the entire Wales and Borders network.
