Will the Assembly Commission confirm that prospective members of Assembly staff can undertake any required security checks that are in place entirely through the medium of Welsh if they wish to do so?

Answered by Assembly Commission | Answered on 09/07/2018

The National Assembly of Wales complies with UK National Security Vetting guidelines. Baseline Personnel Security Standard checks, which are carried out by the National Assembly Vetting Unit, can be undertaken through the medium of Welsh.

Higher level National Security Vetting checks, which are performed by UK Security Vetting, cannot currently be conducted through the medium of Welsh.

UK Security Vetting have previously been made aware of our requirement to enable applicants to undertake this check through the medium of Welsh, and we continue to pursue this with them.
