The rail franchise allows for the future introduction of new or additional services, subject to the usual consultation process, business case and affordability, and suitable infrastructure being available. The Welsh Government will keep pressing for investment in the non-devolved rail network.
The contracts Transport for Wales is putting in place and the capability it will develop as part of the South Wales Metro project will prepare it for delivering Metro systems in other parts of Wales.
