Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on access to PET scans for patients in Wales?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services | Answered on 21/06/2018

The Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee (WHSSC) is responsible for the commissioning of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) on behalf of health boards in Wales. The service specification sets out the indications for which patients can be referred for a PET scan.

WHSSC has received advice from the All Wales PET Advisory Group recommending additional clinical criteria be added to the commissioning policy. WHSSC led a consultation on these additional criteria and a revised commissioning policy was published in May 2018. WHSSC will continue to keep the evidence base for further expansions in access criteria under review.
