After complaints by local authorities about missing funds from the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller and minority ethnic element of the education improvement grant in the 2018-19 budget, what assurances can the Cabinet Secretary provide to local authority leaders that this will not happen to other grants in the 2019-2020 budget?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Local Government and Public Services | Answered on 01/06/2018

The reprioritisation of resources through the Welsh Government budget is a matter for the Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the relevant portfolio Cabinet Secretaries.

The Cabinet Secretary for Education intends to provide £8.7m for this financial year, to support transitioning services for minority ethnic and, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller learners.

At the time of writing, no new grants have been formally agreed to be transferred into the Revenue Support Grant (RSG) for 2019-20. Where there are transfers into the RSG, the distributional implications will be considered through the appropriate channels of the Distribution and Finance Sub Groups.
