What steps is the Assembly Commission taking to help staff with smoking cessation?

Answered by Assembly Commission | Answered on 18/06/2018

The Assembly Commission has implemented a number of measures to assist staff to stop smoking, including:

  • periodically running wellbeing days for all staff, attended by ‘Stop Smoking Wales’ who offer help and guidance as well as a course of free sessions to help smokers to give up;
  • The Commission’s Occupational Health Nurse is available to provide direct support and guidance to those trying to stop smoking, as well as being able to signpost individuals to further support through external bodies;
  • The Commission’s intranet has information on smoking, including the health benefits of smoking cessation, indicative cost benefits, and links to the British Heart Foundation ‘10 Minutes to Change your Life’ initiative; and
  • we periodically publicise national no smoking day and in future we will consider using it as an opportunity to invite in organisations who work on this issue.
