How does the Cabinet Secretary ensure that urgent changes required to trunk road layout/roundabouts, such as the A4042 at the Rechem roundabout, are agreed in a timely way in order to ensure safety and maximum convenience for road users?
We take road safety very seriously and when development planning applications are likely to impact our existing transport networks, officials work closely with planning authorities to ensure that forecast additional traffic can be accommodated.
Developer led schemes have a number of in-built independent safety checks that enable any apparent design issues to be addressed. Officials also work with the developer’s contractors including their Traffic Management provider to best ensure that essential works are delivered in a timely manner that minimises inconvenience to the travelling public.
Regarding the A4042 Rechem roundabout, we have received a number of concerns about the new road layout and are working with the local authority and the developer responsible for carrying out the work and its design, to address the situation as a matter of urgency.
