Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on the development of the National Academy for Educational Leadership?
Further to my update in December 2018 I am pleased to say that the development of the National Academy for Educational Leadership (NAEL) is progressing well. I plan to formally launch the Academy in May 2018; this will include making an initial call for provision to be brought forward for endorsement by the new body.
In regard of progress towards establishing the body, we have recently undertaken interviews for the Chair and board members. I will be able to provide further details of the board as soon as possible after the process of clearance and vetting has been completed. Likewise the process for recruiting the Chief Executive Officer for the NAEL is underway with interviews to be held shortly.
In March 2018 we identified the first group of 12 Academy Associates. They have recently undergone an induction process and will be participating in an innovative, high-level development programme to support them in their roles.
Work is progressing well on finalising the location of the Academy and we will shortly be incorporating the NAEL as a company limited by guarantee.
I will make a statement to the Senedd in May where I will be able to give further details.
