In regard to the Public Health (Wales) Act 2017, will the Cabinet Secretary outline the full timeline for provisions for the Act coming in to force?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services | Answered on 16/03/2018

Work is well underway to progress implementation of the Public Health (Wales) Act 2017 (the Act). The provisions in the Act relating to a national strategy on preventing obesity and reducing obesity levels in Wales came in to force on the 4 October 2017 as did the provisions relating to fixed penalty receipts for food hygiene rating.  Part 5 of the Act came into force on 1 February 2018, introducing a nationwide ban on the intimate piercing of under 18s.   A consultation exercise on the local toilets strategies started in mid-January.

As the nature of the work in relation to implementation is varied a staggered approach has been taken allowing for the preparatory work to take place. This takes account of a number of factors such as the need to prepare and consult on regulations and training and communications work where appropriate.
