How is the Welsh Government ensuring that representatives of education are involved in developing the new Obesity Strategy?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services | Answered on 05/03/2018

The Obesity Strategy will be launched for consultation in early July. Education representatives have been involved in the scoping and development work.  For instance, two policy workshops were held in February and included a range of partners from the education sector including Welsh Government Education officials, Healthy Schools Co-ordinators, the National Association of Head Teachers, the WLGA and also a range representatives of initiatives delivered in partnership with schools such as the Daily Mile, Nutrition Skills for Life, Play Wales, Child Measurement Programme and Peas Please.

Senior education officials are represented on the Obesity Strategy Development Board, chaired by the Chief Medical Officer.
