In light of media reports last week, will the Cabinet Secretary confirm that there will be an Assembly vote prior to construction commencing on the M4 relief road?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Transport | Answered on 28/02/2018

The Welsh Government will bring forward a debate, in government time, on the M4 Corridor around Newport Project following conclusion of the Public Local Inquiry.

Given that independent inquiry is still underway I am currently considering legal advice as to the timing of the debate and will inform the Assembly of those plans when they are finalised.

I have also written to all party groups in the Assembly to arrange a technical briefing with project team officials on the current position to ensure members are full appraised of all the facts related to the scheme.
