Since it was bought five years ago, why has the Welsh Government not yet developed on the land at Callaghan Square?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Transport | Answered on 15/02/2018

The land was originally purchased by Welsh Government in order to stimulate delivery of much needed high quality offices in the city centre. The subsequent success of the private sector in delivering record levels of floor space (in the Enterprise Zone) eased the pressure for its early redevelopment. More recently, broader mixed use proposals have been presented but these have not been progressed or realised to date. With an ever more vibrant and maturing city centre, the opportunities for its successful redevelopment have never been stronger or more timely. There is currently interest in the Callaghan Square site from a number of parties and my officials are in the process of preparing advice. My focus is on obtaining the best outcomes from the sale of the site and its subsequent development.
