Will the Cabinet Secretary confirm what discussions the Welsh Government has had regarding acquiring alternative premises for domestic violence charity Atal y Fro in Barry?

Answered by Minister for Housing and Regeneration | Answered on 05/02/2018

Welsh Government Officials are in contact with the Vale of Glamorgan Council regarding a possible community asset transfer of a property in that locality for use as an office space for Atal Y Fro.

The Council is considering potential options for the future use of the premises and its Regeneration Officers are meeting with Atal Y Fro today to discuss the potential of an asset transfer.

Welsh Government Officials are liaising with the Council to ensure the best outcome for the premises in question and also to safeguard public funding.

In 2016-2017, Atal Y Fro made an application to the Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence capital grant scheme to purchase a building.  This application was refused as the building in question required planning permission and renovations which had not been planned or budgeted for.
