How much money has been allocated in the most recent budget specifically to cervical cancer screening and how does this compare with the last 3 years?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services | Answered on 01/02/2018

Public Health Wales is responsible for funding screening programmes in Wales from its core allocation.

Funding for the last three years is set out below. The gradual reduction in funding is due to programme changes which came into effect in September 2013 which raised the initial invitation age to 25 and extended the screening interval for women aged between 50 and 64 from 3 to 5 years. These changes were made in accordance with UK National Screening Committee recommendations.

Funding for cervical cancer screening

2015-16         £10,771,753

2016-17         £10,602,154

2017-18         £10,389,499
