Is the Welsh Government exploring the possibility of extending the Outdoor Recreation Valuation Tool’s coverage to Wales?

Answered by Minister for Environment | Answered on 18/01/2018

We are not currently looking to extend the Outdoor Recreation Valuation Tool (ORVal) to Wales.

As part of our policy to increase opportunities for accessing the outdoors we are considering options for developing a digitised map of accessible areas and green infrastructure. This would replace existing print versions of statutory maps. This would reduce existing burdens on public bodies required to keep these maps updated and it would provide information to the public on what they can do and where they can go.

We are considering including a new indicator on access to green space under the physical environment section of the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation, which is due to be published in 2019.
