What progress has been made in undertaking an operational assessment of the McDonald’s roundabout on the A4042 in Pontypool?

A4042/A472 Heron Roundabout Study – Officials have recently commissioned a Stage 1 WelTAG Assessment of potential options to improve the operation and safety of the roundabout. The assessment is likely to be completed in spring and will include liaison with Torfaen County Borough Council, as the Highway Authority for the A472. Depending on the outcomes, Stage 2 and 3 WelTAG Assessments will possibly be commissioned to help determine which of the options should be taken forward to design development and construction.

A4042 Route-based Local Safety Scheme – Detailed design of the recommendations from the Route-based Collision Investigation and Prevention (CIP) Study was completed in 2017. The improvement measures are programmed to be implemented in the current financial year.

I can also confirm that improvement works at the A4042 Cwmbran ‘Rechem’ Roundabout, associated with the South Sebastopol development, started in the New Year, and that improvement measures, associated with the Specialist and Critical Care Centre development, are due to be made to the A4042 Llanfrechfa ‘Turnpike’ roundabout later this year.
