Will the proportion of small businesses benefitting from business rate relief in 2018/19 be higher than the 70 per cent of small businesses estimated in the Welsh Government's press release of 15 September 2016?
Figures for 2018-19 are not yet available. The permanent Small Business Rates Relief scheme which will be introduced on 1 April 2018 will maintain entitlements to relief for small businesses in Wales and will provide enhanced support for certain types of small business. The new scheme places a limit on the number of properties for which larger businesses with multiple small properties can qualify for relief. We estimate that 70 per cent of all business premises in Wales, including many larger businesses, will be eligible for relief on their non‑domestic rates liability in 2018-19.
