Will the Cabinet Secretary make a statement on the availability of speech and language therapy for stroke victims in south-east Wales?

Answered by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services | Answered on 11/12/2017

It is the responsibility of health boards to ensure they provide adequate access to speech and language therapy for stroke survivors, taking account of relevant best practice.

Our Stroke Delivery Plan provides a framework for action by health boards and NHS trusts, working with their partners. It sets out the expectations of all stakeholders to tackle stroke in people of all ages, wherever they live in Wales and whatever their circumstances.

To support implementation of the delivery plan, health boards have invested in speech and language therapy provision in the acute sector. The Stroke Delivery Plan Annual Report for 2016 highlights the improvement in the percentage of patients assessed within 72 hours by speech and language therapists over the last three years.
