What actions is the Welsh Government taking to develop integration between the economies of the south-west of England and south-east Wales?

Answered by Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy | Answered on 16/10/2026

The Welsh Government maintains strong economic and strategic links with South West England, particularly Bristol, Gloucestershire, Swindon and the wider West of England. These links are based on shared labour and business markets, transport connections across the Severn, complementary industrial strengths and joint efforts to attract investment through partners such as the Cardiff Capital Region (CCR).

The proposed tidal lagoons and the Celtic Sea opportunities are strong examples of the shared economic and environmental opportunities connecting South East Wales with South West England.

We also maintain strong links with Cornwall based on shared Celtic heritage, language and culture. As both Wales and Cornwall seek to strengthen the use of  our native languages and support sustainable local economies, where there are opportunities to share learning on community resilience, cultural tourism, language promotion and economic development.
