What action is being taken by the Welsh Government to reduce child health inequalities?
Securing the best future for every child in Wales, and reducing child health inequalities, is at the heart of my portfolio and our Programme for Government. It is also a key area of focus for the Cardiff Agreement.
We are implementing the Health Impact Assessment (Wales) Regulations 2025 which come into force in April 2027 and ensure public bodies consider the impact of their strategic decisions on population health and health inequalities, including child health inequalities.
We are working in partnership with local authorities to put the internationally recognised Marmot principles, including giving every child the best start in life, into practice.
We have convened a Ministerial Child Poverty Task and Finish Group to support development of a new Child Poverty Strategy informed by evidence, research and the voices of children and young people.
