What discussions has the Welsh Government had with universities, marine energy industries and local partners to support Cardiff's role as a centre for marine energy expertise and ensure Wales develops the skilled workforce needed for future offshore wind and marine energy projects?
Marine energy is an important part of Wales’ clean energy ambitions. The Welsh Government has worked closely with Cardiff University, Marine Energy Wales, and other key stakeholders to develop Wales’ marine energy capability.
Cardiff Capital Region is leading work to develop a tidal lagoon project and Welsh Government officials are helping to steer that work. The Welsh Government also continues to work with the four Regional Skills Partnerships, including the South West Regional Learning and Skills Partnership, which covers South Wales, to identify skills priorities at both regional and sub-regional levels.
The Welsh Government also supports employers through the Flexible Skills Programme, which provides match funding for training that helps businesses to address skills gaps, retain existing staff and attract new talent.
