How does the Welsh Government meet its duty to protect women and children through regional safeguarding boards and community safety partnerships, and how does it ensure communities feel safe and supported while police carry out their work and tensions run high?
The Violence Against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Act 2015 provides a statutory framework for preventing abuse, protecting victims and survivors, and improving support services across Wales.
Community Safety Partnerships help ensure local agencies work together to respond to emerging risks, support vulnerable people and promote public confidence. Regional Safeguarding Boards bring together key organisations to identify emerging risks, share learning and strengthen protection arrangements for children and adults at risk of abuse, neglect and harm.
While policing is non-devolved, the Welsh Government also works closely with police, public services, safeguarding partners and specialist services to help keep communities safe and support those affected by abuse, including during periods of heightened concern or tension.
