OPIN-2026-0514 Youth and Graduate Unemployment
(e)
Tabled on 22/05/2026
This Senedd:
1. Acknowledges too many young people are starting adult life without work, training, or a clear route into employment.
2. Notes graduate unemployment and underemployment remain serious concerns, with too many Welsh graduates unable to find work that matches their skills, or leaving Wales to find opportunities.
3. Realises prolonged unemployment at a young age can have lasting effects on earnings, health, and life chances.
4. Calls on the Welsh Government to:
a) set clear and measurable targets for reducing youth and graduate unemployment;
b) report regularly to the Senedd on progress against those targets; and
c) develop a strategy to retain graduates in Wales.
