National Assembly for Wales

This Senedd:
1. Notes that:
a) S4C launched on 1 November 1982, following decades of campaigning by thousands of people demanding the creation of a Welsh-language TV channel; and
b) S4C’s Chair and members of the unitary board are appointed by the UK Government.
2. Believes that:
a) S4C has contributed immeasurably to the cultural wealth of Wales and the world;
b) S4C is an essential platform for the Welsh language; and
c) S4C is a cultural jewel that must be protected;
3. Calls on the Welsh Government to demand the devolution of broadcasting.
4. Calls for S4C’s chair and unitary board to be appointed by the Welsh Government.
