OPIN-2021-0236 Support community banks (e) Tabled on 23/11/2021

This Senedd:

1. Regrets that Barclays is the latest bank to announce further high street closures, including Porthmadog and Caernarfon branches.

2. Recognises that people and charities rely on high-street banks and that 30 per cent of people in Wales want to access a branch regularly.

3. Recognises that 7.5 per cent of people in rural Wales are more than 16km from their closest bank.

4. Notes the Government’s announcement to establish a community bank of Wales during 2021.

5. Acknowledges that Banc Cambria aims to open high street branches in Wales.

6. Calls on the Government to accelerate the establishing of Banc Cambria.
