OPIN-2020-0156 Effective Diagnosis and Treatment of Pernicious Anaemia (e) Tabled on 11/03/2020

This Assembly:

a) recognises that there are problems associated with the current test being used to measure the amount of B12 in a patient’s blood;

b) recognises that the test used to establish a clear, causal link between B12 deficiency and pernicious anaemia is flawed;

c) recognises an urgency to invest in research for diagnosing and treating pernicious anaemia;

d) recognises that doctors do not consistently and actively look for B12 deficiency;

e) calls on the Welsh Government to support the development of a reliable and effective standard of diagnosis for pernicious anaemia so that patients can be properly diagnosed, and subsequently treated, for their disease.
