OPIN-2016-0025 Offence of sending sexual communication to a child via the Serious Crime Act (e) Tabled on 23/11/2016

This Assembly:

•Notes that, following an NSPCC petition signed by over 50,000 people, the UK Government introduced a new offence of sending sexual communication to a child via the Serious Crime Act in March 2015;

•Expresses concern that the UK Government has still not set a start date for this law and believes that every day we wait is another day children are at risk;

•Calls on the Welsh Government to make representations to the UK Government to commence the offence as soon as possible and ensure that our police have this vital tool to help protect children from abuse.
