What assessment has the Cabinet Minister made of how the rights of children are protected when families are placed in temporary accommodation?

I recognise that any child living in temporary accommodation is a serious concern. What progress has the Welsh Government made on the timetable for the provision of universal free childcare?

We are delivering a phased expansion of childcare in Wales, which, at full expansion, will be the most generous childcare offer in the UK. Our priority is completing the offer of 12.5 funded hours for all two-year-olds by March 2027. Following that, we will progress towards a universal offer of 20 hours for 48 weeks for children aged nine months to four years.

What steps is the Welsh Government taking to reduce flood risk and safeguard residents in Gwaelod-y-Garth following the flooding event linked to quarrying activity?

My thoughts remain with residents affected by the flooding in Gwaelod-y-garth. Responsibility for the quarry’s safe operation rests with the appropriate regulators, with whom we remain in close contact. I am confident the incident is being thoroughly investigated to provide the community with the answers they rightly expect.

What consideration has the Cabinet Minister given to the use of natural defences in protecting against flooding?

Nature-based solutions play an important role alongside traditional flood defences in reducing risk of flooding to communities. We are investing over £5 million this year to deliver 35 projects across Wales, adopting catchment-based approaches to strengthen resilience, help communities prepare for future flooding and adapt to a changing climate.
