Businesses across Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd make a significant contribution to local employment and economic growth. Through Business Wales, the Development Bank of Wales and innovation support, we are helping firms succeed, while maximising opportunities arising from the growth and city deals.
What action is the Welsh Government taking to close the productivity gap as part of its economic development strategy?
The Welsh Government’s Productivity Mission aims to halve the productivity gap between Wales and the UK average over the next decade. We are driving business growth, investment, innovation, connectivity and regional development, whilst establishing a national development agency and focusing on building a clear evidence base.
What progress has the Welsh Government made in advancing employment opportunities in Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg?
Our Productivity Mission will help businesses, supporting higher-value industries and better paid jobs across Wales. Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg will benefit from the South East Wales AI Growth Zone and the South East Wales Investment Zone - both will facilitate major opportunities for employment and the skills needed now and for future generations.

What assessment has the Cabinet Minister made of the effectiveness of current learner travel arrangements?
Local authorities are responsible for delivering learner travel arrangements in accordance with their statutory duties. They determine eligibility, make transport arrangements and are best placed to respond to local needs and circumstances. The Welsh Government does not review or approve individual learner transport decisions.
What progress has the Welsh Government made in advancing educational outcomes in Pen-y-bont Bro Morgannwg?
The Welsh Government’s new Foundational Literacy and Numeracy Plan, that I published last week, sets out a clear and ambitious programme of action to raise literacy and numeracy outcomes throughout this Senedd term.
The Plan is designed to benefit all learners, wherever in Wales they reside, and forms an important part of our vision for education across the 0-16 age range.
How will the Cabinet Minister ensure that local communities continue to benefit from investment in the Welsh language through cultural festivals like the National Eisteddfod after the event has ended?

What action is the Welsh Government taking to address shortages of secondary school teachers able to teach through the medium of Welsh?
Actions to support schools to recruit, retain and develop Welsh-medium secondary teachers are a central focus of the Welsh in Education Workforce Plan. We will be building on this by consulting on workforce steps in the new National Framework for Welsh Language Education, later in the autumn.
