Questions For - First Minister
What recent discussions has the Welsh Government had with Wrexham Council representatives regarding its local development plan?
Following the legal ruling to quash the council’s decision to adopt Wrexham’s local development plan, reverting it back to an emerging plan, the council has requested Welsh Ministers withdraw it. Welsh Ministers are considering all options to resolve the situation, which includes withdrawal of the LDP.
Will the First Minister provide an update on the work of the Burns delivery unit?
As a result of the hard work of our delivery unit, the UK Government has committed to delivering transformational rail enhancements to the south Wales main line. We also continue to work with local authorities and the city region to develop, decide and deliver on wider projects recommended by Lord Burns.
Will the First Minister make a statement on funding for social care?
Social care is at the heart of our commitment to communities. Primarily, funding comes through the £6.1 billion local government settlement. Under our agreement with Plaid Cymru, councils will receive an extra £112.8 million in 2026-27—a 4.5 per cent uplift, with every authority guaranteed more than 4 per cent. In addition, we provide over £175 million for social care priorities, including £30 million for pathways of care, and £70 million for capital improvements, ensuring people get the care they need now and for the future.
Will the First Minister provide an update on the work to ensure building safety in Wales following the Grenfell fire tragedy eight years ago?
The horrific memories of what happened at Grenfell Tower continue to drive our focus on building safety. The Cabinet Secretary has today issued a written statement updating members on our remediation programme and I am pleased the Senedd has agreed the general principles of the Building Safety (Wales) Bill.
