Questions For - Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Trefnydd and Chief Whip
How is the Welsh Government supporting Ukrainian refugees in Wales?
Many Ukrainians are well settled and living independently in Wales, with local authorities and third sector partners providing integration support where needed. While few now arrive, we continue to welcome all seeking sanctuary, offering hosting or temporary accommodation, with local authorities supporting their transition to independent living and long-term housing.
Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on discussions with the UK Government on the provision of a women’s residential centre in Wales?
I regularly engage with UK Government justice Ministers and key partners who are leading on this important work. I met with Lord Timpson on 9 June, where I once again pushed for the opening of the centre, and I look forward to raising this issue at other upcoming ministerial forums.
Will the Cabinet Secretary make a statement on access to housing and shelter for survivors of violence?
Across Wales, refuges are available for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence. Access to safe and secure housing, whether emergency, social, or private, should never be a barrier for survivors of violence.
What is the Welsh Government doing to ensure that a cross-section of the community is putting themselves forward to serve as magistrates?
The recruitment and appointment of magistrates, who perform a vital, unpaid and increasing role within the criminal justice system, is reserved, and primarily the responsibility of the Lord Chancellor.
Questions For - Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales
Will the Cabinet Secretary provide an update on access to home-to-school transport in South Wales East?
The provision of learner travel is the responsibility of individual local authorities within the framework of the Learner Travel (Wales) Measure 2008 and supporting statutory guidance. On 11 June, I published a 12-week consultation on the revised learner travel operational guidance. I would encourage all Members to engage in this process.
When does the Government plan to start building work on the Llandeilo bypass?
As per my written statement of 18 June, construction could start in 2029 subject to the successful completion of statutory proceedings, which could include holding a public local inquiry.
Will the Cabinet Secretary make a statement on the operation of the blue badge scheme?
We are committed to making sure disabled people with the greatest functional mobility challenges can access on-street parking, when using community-based services.
Will the Cabinet Secretary make a statement on urban speed limits in north Wales?
The Welsh Government has been clear from the outset: the 20 mph default speed limit is about saving lives and preventing injuries, especially for vulnerable road users like children and older people. Getting the right speeds on the right roads is key to safer, more welcoming communities for all.
