NNDM8558 - Member Debates

Tabled on 23/04/2024

To propose that the Senedd:

1. Notes that:

a) standing charges for electricity in Wales are significantly higher than the UK average;

b) residents pay standing charges on days no energy is used; and

c) prepay customers accrue standing charge debt when they have run out of credit.

2. Believes that:

a) standing charges are particularly unfair for lower income residents as they have to pay even when reducing consumption;

b) standing charges should be removed on days when no energy is used; and

c) higher standing charges for Welsh residents is unjustifiable.

3. Calls on the Welsh Government to:

a) further support advice services to help people who have got into debt partly because of high standing charges; and

b) further support partners working with people in immediate need.
