National Assembly for Wales

To propose that the Senedd: 

1. Notes that:

a) this month marks the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the miners' strike; 

b) this struggle saw the full weight of the state wage war against the National Union of Mineworkers and mining communities of the UK; and

c) Welsh miners fought for the future of the industry, and communities up and down Wales supported the miners in their struggle.

2. Recognises the hardship suffered by miners and their families during the strike and how women led their communities in supporting the strike.

3. Repeats its call for a public inquiry into the events at Orgreave and calls for a national memorial to the strike.
