National Assembly for Wales

To propose that the Senedd:

1. Notes a proposal for a Bill to promote the clean-up of toxic sites in Wales.

2. Notes that the purpose of the Bill would be to:

a) create the environmental watchdog needed in Wales to remedy the many toxic sites left as a result of our industrial heritage;

b) consult with stakeholders to establish a map of toxic sites across Wales and identify the environmental powers within our competence that will be required by the watchdog to clean up such areas;

c) pursue polluters, whether they are historic or more recent, with all the powers at disposal in Wales to ensure that the cost of remedying their toxic legacy is met in full by them and compensation paid where applicable; and

d) promote an awareness campaign among the general public so that they can inform authorities of any areas of concern and report polluters when they witness it happening.
