NNDM8280 - Member Debates
Tabled on 31/05/2023To propose that the Senedd:
1. Notes that health inequalities are unfair, avoidable differences in health access and outcomes across the population, and between different groups within society.
2. Recognises that health inequalities have a greater, disproportionate impact on women, and can emanate from a variety of factors, including differences in income, proximity to care, housing, and educational attainment.
3. Notes that health inequalities existed prior to the pandemic, but that the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis has exacerbated them.
4. Acknowledges that tackling health inequalities requires a holistic, joined-up approach across all Government departments.
5. Regrets that current health inequality levels cost the Welsh NHS approximately £322 million every year.
6. Calls on the Welsh Government to:
a) develop a cross-government plan that outlines clear strategies and targets for all Government departments to reduce health inequalities;
b) continue to invest and improve access to prevention programmes based in primary and community care, specifically for those living in poverty.
