NNDM7956 - Member Debates
Tabled on 10/03/2022To propose that the Senedd:
1. Notes that:
a) Welsh history and culture can be recognised and remembered by preserving buildings that provide a visual reminder of our cultural heritage;
b) listed status protects buildings of historic importance for future generations and provides local communities with a visual opportunity to take pride in their surroundings;
c) repurposing and reimagining historic buildings should be prioritised over demolition, for cultural as well as environmental reasons.
2. Calls on the Welsh Government to:
a) review Cadw’s listed building decision-making framework to make sure it is aligned with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015;
b) expand local authorities’ remit to make it easier to award protected status to buildings of local cultural importance;
c) commit to increase transparency in the way Planning Inspectorate Wales discharges its role.
