National Assembly for Wales

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales:

1. Notes a proposal to create regulations under sections 26, 27 and 39 of the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 to introduce Welsh language standards to more bodies and organisations.

2. Notes that the purpose of the regulations would be to:

a) allow the Welsh Language Commissioner to set standards for: housing associations; postal services; water, transport, energy and telecommunications sectors; as well as allowing new bodies to be added to regulations already passed;

b) give further rights to persons and staff to use the Welsh language, thus ensuring an increase in the availability and use of Welsh language services for the people of Wales;

c) ensure consistency in the legislative framework in which organisations operate with regard to using the Welsh language, whilst maintaining the momentum of the standards regime;

d) drive forward the aims and objectives of the Cymraeg2050 strategy in relation to the workforce and strategic language planning.
