NNDM6261 - Debate on Members’ Legislative Proposal

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales:

1. Notes a proposal for a Bill on letting or management agent fees charged to tenants.

2. The purpose of this Bill would be to:

a) to prohibit letting or management agents from charging any fine, sum or pecuniary consideration, including any service or administration fee or charge, in respect of the grant, renewal or continuance of a protected tenancy, other than rent and a refundable deposit;

b) to regulate the maximum amount that can be charged to a tenant by way of a refundable deposit;

c) to decrease the cost of renting to private tenants and remove barriers to first time renters and those on low incomes; and

d) to establish a statutory redress scheme for private tenants with disputes in relation to letting or management agent fees.
